요세미티에서 마운틴 휘트니까지 222마일(357km)를 종주하는 꿈의 등산로미 국립공원(National Park System)의 아버지로 불리고 시에라 클럽(Sierra Club)의 창시자인 죤 뮤어(John Muir1838-1914)를 기념하여 1938년에 완결된 죤 뮤어 등산로(John Muir Trail)는 요세미티에서 마운틴 휘트니까지 시에라 네바다 산맥을 가로지르는 대장정의 백패킹 코스이다.
